Getting newsy with it

When you are incorporating news stories into your blog content, your approach truly matters. You are never going to successfully compete with the large media sites, so re-stating industry-relevant stories will never captivate your readers.

You can use the news information in a number of different ways and your approach really depends not only on  your industry, but also how you’ve positioned your blog. You have to ensure that your blog posts contain news in a way that makes sense to your readers, not just for search or backlink reasons.

Here are a few ways to incorporate news into your blog posts:

  • Providing commentary – if there is a big development in your industry, you always have the option to provide your own personal commentary on the subject. For example, an SEO blog (ahem, or for example, columns like mine here) could discuss how they foresee the Google Panda updates impacting the industry.
  • Providing guidance – using the same example above, you can help people interpret the news and show them how to implement a compatible technique. In this case, making Google Panda work for you.
  • Using news as a lead – with this strategy, the news doesn’t play a role throughout your article like it does with the others. Here, it’s simply mentioning something that is newsworthy and acts as a good example of whatever aspect of your industry you’re discussing. This use of news keeps you relevant and current without it dominating.

Since I can only use vague examples here – we’d love it if you share how you use news in your industry when writing for your blog!

  1. I couldn’t agree more. I personally deal with many IT websites (I own some and write for others) and I always try not just to get the news published.

It’s important to tell your readers why the news concerns them, what it really means and how can they benefit/counteract that.

It’s increasingly necessary to add value to your posts, not just pass on the info given to us by others.

  4. What google panda latest update says to users, the crashing sites from last panda update were those who have some kind of content issues on their sites. Today the most important fact about sites is use Proper and Fresh content.

  5. We use it to our advantage, to get traffic and more interested people coming in. The most controversial topics usually get more chances to be read so maybe making an article about it can get people to view our blogs and show them what we offer.

  6. As SEO, I believe that content are critical: they must be substantial and should provide added value compared to the same topic addressed by other websites.
The same Google rewards sites with original and consistent content.

  7. Adding humorous commentary can get you a crowd for sure. There’s a very famous YouTuber whose whole channel consists of him commenting on other videos. He has millions of subscribers and a huge following.
