Guest blogging for more business

By Beth Graddon-Hodgson

guest_bloggerIf you’ve got a business blog, at some point, you’ve probably considered writing a guest post for another blog or online publication. Some bloggers are hesitant about doing this, thinking “why would I drive traffic to someone else’s site when I can focus on doing the same for my own?” Well, like many things these posts have addressed about blogging, that’s another misconception.

Here are some of the reasons why guest blogging for another blog will help you improve your own blog’s web traffic and help advance your business. So open yourself up to the idea, and it’ll be a good thing!

  1. Guest blogging improves your online presence from an SEO stand-point – the more your business name and your own name is plastered all over the internet, the better chance people have of knowing it! Even if you’re posting on a topic that’s not directly related to your business products or services, your name and your business name just might find themselves associated with different and more varied search queries. It’s all about exposure!
  2. You drive traffic to your own website – if you make sure you’ll get a link to your business website or blog when doing a guest post, it will generate traffic for you directly especially if your post is engaging enough that it makes readers want to learn more about who you are and what your business does.
  3. Good blog karma – this blog has focused a lot on blog karma, and guest posts contribute to developing that good online karma as well. Your guest posts provide benefits to the site featuring them as well so you’re creating that network of other sites and bloggers that will offer you and your brand support (and expect you to do the same for them).

You need to ensure that you pick a blog that’s a good fit for your niche in order to benefit. You of course also want one that gets a decent amount of traffic and that has readers who would enjoy your topic area as you keep your post(s) relevant to your business. For some ideas, here’s a list of 50 sites that regularly take on guest bloggers.

Now that you’ve thought about going forward with your idea to write a guest post for another blog, you’re probably wondering what you’ll get by featuring your own guest bloggers, so come back for the next post!

By the way….the Wax blog welcomes guest bloggers too! Email Bonnie if you’re interested at waxmarketing at gmail dot com.

Good tip! I was also of the mindset that I should only be promoting my own blogs, but this makes perfect sense and cleared up a few things for me.

Looking forward to the next post.

Hi Beth. I think you are spot on. There are some great benefits to guest posting, especially the SEO value of getting links from a variety of sources. I will try to come up for a great topic for your blog.

It is all about exposure. Thank you for that great list! It’s kind of a funny thought that we compete against others to write “free” content to be featured in blogs like these.

I like going guest postings because it has the good points you mentioned above: traffic, seo with the good backlink but also popularity.
