The basics for finding time to tweet, post, Facebook, Foursquare, LinkedIn…..
We might be operating in a new technological paradigm, but the basics still apply when you’re trying to find time to make use of social media. In this post, Dana Larson provides a refresher on some easy ways to make time for online marketing. On Monday, I will share with you the specific tools I use to automate as much of my own social media platform (and my clients) as I can. But first, here’s Dana…
We want to be able to “do it all”, but let’s face it – we don’t have time. You probably don’t even have time to read this blog post, right? Staying up to date on all the new
advances in online marketing is a full-time job in itself. Below I’m listing my top 5 ways to manage my workload.
How do YOU stay organized enough to read all the blogs, tweet to all the influencers and still try to make a name for yourself and your business online? And how do you do all this without pulling out your hair and running and screaming through your neighborhood? Share your time and work management tips in the comments section and let’s get a good list going.
For starters, here are 5 quick ways to stay organized and manage your day-to-day online marketing tactics.
1. Get Organized
When there is so much information flying at you from every direction, it’s easy to fall into the dark, disorganized abyss. Make sure that your desk, your computer desktop, your office, your car and everywhere else you work is as organized as possible. Once everything you access is straightened up and neat, you’ll be able to work more efficiently.
2. Create A Routine
Sometimes the best way to get stuff done is to plan it out. By creating a routine of when you read, communicate, network and write, you’ll fall into a productive routine which will help you get more work done in an efficient manner.
3. Take Marketing wIth You
With the huge advancements in mobile technology and thousands of useful applications for your Smart Phone, it’s easy to stay connect everywhere you go. If your marketing includes any sort of social media aspect, install those applications on your iPhone, BlackBerry or Android phone and continue to market and network with others from anywhere.
4. Schedule Your Efforts
When you’re creating online content with blog software or by using Twitter in your marketing efforts, you are able to schedule posts to be published in the future. This way, you don’t need to be a slave to your computer all hours of the day, and you can write a handful of blog posts in one day and schedule them evenly throughout the month to even out your frequency.
5. Work With Others
Want to spread out your efforts? Go ahead and rally the troops to help you out with your marketing. Know a great designer? Do a trade out for help with a web design project. Have opinionated friends? Give them space to post on your blog. Combine efforts with others for a more effective marketing mix overall.
I’ve also found a couple additional time management articles for you. They can be considered “oldies but goodies” as their ideas still hold true and can help you effectively manage your marketing efforts. Lifehacker Time Management for Creative People and Penelope Trunk both have some great ideas and tips.

Good points – and I wonder if it’s also worth mentioning that it can be very handy to schedule postings too.
That way you can write stuff when you’ve got time and have it published (say) bi-weekly (or whatever).

I do schedule postings, but on the advice of a commenter I do NOT schedule them at the same time each day. Apparently he got labeled as spam and never recovered his page rank. Wondering how far out folks schedule posts?

I have never heard about being labeled as spam for posting at the same time each day. That’s pretty scary. I like having others working with me to keep me accountable and I enjoy working with a bit of pressure.

I like this list.. especially the smart phone idea. I do most of my facebook and twitter stuff from my iPhone. It’s the best idea ever!

This is a great list of suggestions. Thank you! Staying organized helps me to be so much more productive. It keeps me focused, I no longer spend time thinking about all the tasks I could be doing — taking out the trash, clearing off my desk, organizing that never ending pile of papers. Keeping your work space neat keeps your mind focused and helps reduce distractions. Also, having social media apps on your smart phone is extremely helpful. You can quickly facebook or twitter on your way to work in the back of the cab or on the subway. I would highly recommend that everyone jump on the technological train. Its easy, quick and free.

Oh it has taken over many peoples lives. I cannot believe the amount of time devoted to social networking. I personally enjoy the process, but gee, at times I wish there was a simple knock at the door, or a letter in the mail box. How exciting would that be?

One idea that I stole from other blogs that has been working well is giving away 2 free ads per month. .. A lot of things happened at the same time. I finally got a full. I love to write but have never set up a blog.
