Using Feng Shui to get more PR

Chinese symbols for fame
Woo woo alert!! Readers, since you’re so enamored with the Feng Shui tip about wearing red underwear to give you energy on TV, I thought I’d provide five ways to use the ancient Chinese art of feng shui to improve the results of your PR campaign.
Think this is weird? The Chinese often refuse to erect a new office building in China until it’s been certified for Feng Shui. Here in this country, folks like Roger Green and Carole Hyder are in high demand for their feng shui workshops and consultations. When I did Carole’s PR, people used to line up out the door at her book signings.
First find the area of your office or home on what they call the Bagua that is the “fame” area. (It’s basically the back middle area of your office) Then it’s time to decorate.
- Red is the main color so make sure you have some red in this area. I have a red scarf draped here.
- Fire is the element that is associated with fame, reputation and recognition so put a candle there too.
- Any pictures with red in them are good for this area.
- Some people suggest this is a great place to hang awards, diplomas, anything that signifies recognition.
- An iVillage article suggests even putting pictures of famous people in this area.
You can find out more about using feng shui for your office in this article from the Care2 site If I’ve learned anything about PR and feng shui, it’s to make sure your fame area isn’t cluttered or dirty if you’re starting a new campaign. It’s the first think I look at when I’m engaging a new client. Better safe than sorry!
If you really want to get more detail I’d highly recommend Carole’s book Wind and Water: Your Personal Feng Shui Journey

I am a blogger from China. But from where I stand, there are no direct relationship between FengShui and PR.
In fact, FengShui is invisible and we can’t feel it in our real world.

Looks like I’ll be redecorating this week. I should never have listened to the firm I hired to design my office when they said “Neon in anything is the new power color”.

Interesting. I’m glad red is a powerful color. We use a lot of it in our office, and some of the best sports teams have it as well.

From the comments it looks like some people have confused Public Relations with Page Rank.. To clarify this post is concerting Public Relations?

I think as more and more campaigns strive for synergy between messaging platforms, it’s ALL being put under the broad roof of PR…from SEO to morning shows.

I have a giant pillar painted in the same monotone gray fashion as the walls of my office. I’ll be sure to keep my eye out for something red. Gray surroundings can’t be good for my motivation.

maybe just a big smiley face on the pillar then?

Criminal Justice degree – just paint the damned pillar bright red in any case…. grey pillars are just ASKING to be walked into, whereas no one could miss seeing a bright red one!

This design is steller! You definitely know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
