How to find YOUR marketing workout buddy
There are a lot of business owners that despise marketing as much as some people despise working out. Just like going to the gym, it’s easier to stay on track if you’ve got a someone you’re accountable to. Some business owners use groups on social media sites like LinkedIn to ask questions and find guidance but I think it’s important to have a live person you know that can be a sounding board for your marketing activities. There are tons of great networking groups where you can find potential contacts. Here’s a list of some of the small business social networks you can tap into locally to help find your marketing workout buddy.
Entrepreneur’s Organization (formally YEO) – this is a group that is well organized and hosts quite a few fun events.
National Small Business Association – the oldest organization of its kind, the NSBA does a great job of connecting small business owners
SCORE is perhaps the best-known mentoring and networking associations for small businesses.
The National Federation of Independent Business is a bit less known, but a great source of helpful information for business owners.
Of course, if your business is mainly local never forget about your local Chamber of Commerce.

Good point. Network is a good way to keep the track.
What is important is to keep what is important, important!

Hello! I found your blog while doing research about online marketing and I’d like to thank you on the informative posts. We’re also new to online marketing and I am amazed by the wealth of information being freely shared on the Web. I have a question about this post. Do you think I’ll have more chances in developing more leads if I sign up for lesser known small business social networks first than to go to the more popular ones? I was thinking perhaps I’ll have more leads when there are fewer competition for attention in the less well-known networks.

What a fabulous idea. I can see many people taking advantage of this tip. Networking is very imortant and a valuable way to find networks such as these. What would we do without social networks???
Thanks for sharing!

I would go with both…try the bigger ones and the smaller ones. Then focus on those that seem to drive the best results. We’re all in test mode with social media so it takes a bit of time to find the right ‘nodes’ for your individual social media strategy.

You’re very welcome! I would also recommend the Church of the Customer blog, if this is the type of info you’re looking for.

That was a very interesting article, with some useful links. It is very good practice as a small business owner to have someone effective and reliable to do the marketing. That’s great advice to have a ‘live’ sounding board and someone to assist in pushing the marketing forwards, so the core business can be focussed upon.
